All of us have our own “BIG WHYs” in every decision or endeavor we make. I have mine too. I want to share with you my “WHY” in my journey to freelancing. But first, let me tell you how I became a freelancer from being a banker.

My Life Before Freelancing

Before the pandemic, I was a full-time mom and a full-time evangelizer of God’s Word. Being a Jehovah’s Witness, my priority is my ministry and, of course, my family. I love sharing with others the bible truths I am learning and have learned. Because of this desire, I decided to resign from my work as a banker in 2013. I then immediately started a course of full-time ministry. To support the new path I have taken, my husband and I went into farming. Everything has been running smoothly until the farming industry took its toll due to climate change, tariff changes, oil price hikes, etc., plus the pandemic’s effect. Due to these changes, we have to think of other means to provide for their needs. Although I have a firm conviction that my God Jehovah would supply my family needs, I know he is also expecting something from my part. I know that I need to look for a part-time job that would support my ministry and my family.

But what would it be? I have been unemployed for seven years, and all my accounting knowledge seems to have vanished in my memory. All my confidence and self-esteem has gone low when it comes to working again. Also, I was having second thoughts if somebody would still hire me despite my age. And if ever, would they allow me to work part-time? What if they don’t? Can I still serve full-time in my ministry and spend more time with my family? There are a lot of questions going on in my mind. There are a lot of WHAT IFs.

Freelancing is the solution.

Last December 2020, my eldest sister Lorna sent me an invitation to join a Freelancing Neophytes Campsite group. This group taught me things like freelancing, virtual assistance, online teaching, online bookkeeping, and the like. Terms that I have never heard before. I was surprised to learn that even high school graduates can be virtual assistants or freelancers and can earn money even working part-time. I was so encouraged by the success stories posted in the group, so my interest in freelancing grew. I said to myself - “This is Jehovah’s answer to my many questions.” in short, I enrolled in a freelancing with Filipino Virtual Assistance freelancing course.

My Freelancing Course Training

Freelancing is an up-and-coming career. I admit it was not that easy, especially for me, who does not have enough knowledge and exposure to social media, web creation, applications like CANVA, Wix, and more. But I survived it all through the help of Coach Keren. The training materials provided by Filipino Virtual Assistance has been a great help in preparing me to become a trained Freelancer. I can say that I am more confident now to go out there and find my first client. I hope you will still be there for me on my next journey as a freelancer!
